Test run on Blackboard

I have just had help from Mr Powell to upload my ePub to Blackboard, then I went on my iPad and downloaded it from Blackboard. It then went into the app iBook and opened my finished iBook. I think it looks really good and I am really happy with it I just hope that I covered everything I needed to in the iBook. It was really hard to make and I don't know if I could do a better job?

Posting Problems

Hey everyone, sorry I couldn't post these last couple of posts sooner but I had difficulties posting them so with the film I had to shrink the size of it so I could post it on here. Anyways enjoy :)

Evaluation

My evaluation on iBook task:
I completed this task by telling the audience how I did each scene and even though the music and graphics were playing at different times throughout the scenes. If I could have done my movie again I would have liked to make sure that the music and the animation scenes matched up and that they didn't play off cue. I found this task really cool since I could tell the audience what I was thinking in most of the scenes. Like in scene 9 I loved how it was so different from all the other scene I had done, it didn't contain any Bratz dolls just cut our images from the internet. I made them move as if they had come to life. This directors cut / task I think will help the audience understand my film better because it helps them understand from my point of view when I was making each scene. Even though there were many problems I had making my film overall I enjoyed creating it! It is unique and different from everyone else which I think makes it stand out (in a good way). It was a fun little task to do and making this iBook / ePub will help if the audience doesn't quite understand my film. But saying that I don't really think that it is too hard to follow and it is just for a laugh. So hope you all get to watch my film 'Tik Tok Parody' by Me and if you didn't get to watch it here is the clip below! Enjoy :)

ePub - progress

Hey everyone! It's the weekend and on Friday and Saturday I finished cutting up the rest of my film (it wouldn't save on my usb still think it's corrupted!) then I uploaded all 13 clips to Pages. After that I uploaded the last clip which was the whole film with the music as well. I will try to finish all the writing that comes with the clips today.

How to compress scenes from movie

Mr Powell showed us again today how to compress our movie scenes so they would be easier to open on the iPad.
Step 1: open movie scene you want to compress on QuickTime Player
Step 2: click on file and scroll down till you see save for web...
Step 3: click on save for web.. then a grey box will pop down and will give exporting details
Step 4: at the bottom there will be three boxes, the top box is the one that should only be ticked
Step 5: then click save and it should appear in the spot you saved it in (desktop)
Step 6: you can then send the movie scene to your iPad in pages (in your book)
Step 7: on iPad open up from email and open it in iBooks
Step 8: enjoy as you watch!!

ePub or iBook

Today in class I will be working on my iBook or ePub (whatever you may call it) since I have done my appraising task. Even though I didn't entirely understand what I was doing or watching while completing this task :S ?? Now I will start cutting my final movie into sections.

Appraising Animation - Interpretation

My interpretation of Factory was that there were many people who were turning up to their jobs at a factory and that every little job that the workers did helped run the whole factory. The factory wouldn't work (produce the product that they were making) if there weren't people there to work there. So every job in the factory itself is equally important, this animation reminds me of a real work place with all the jobs and the uniforms that they have to wear. Everyone looking and behaving the same but they all have different jobs. This video has some true in reality but it also is surreal which makes the animation appear out of place.

I showed my mum this animation and she thought it was an interesting view on their creation of people going to work doing their day to day job in a work site. What the different sounds were like in the factory and just viewing how they do their jobs. That they were very repetitive in everything they did and how boring it would be to do the same thing over and over again. The colour scheme was dull and harsh it seems that it would be a strict manner and would make the people wear uniforms.

By watching the film that the intended audience for Matreyek's work would probably be adults and workaholics probably. Due to there being a steady environment and since adults have full time jobs, so they can relate to the mood of this film of going to work. They can relate that some times their jobs can be repetitive and that it is boring (sometimes).

The visual language justifies my interpretation, since in mostly every scene there was some form of repetition and the colours (black and white) didn't change throughout the whole animation. There was also some object that in real life would be smaller than what it actually appeared in the film. This shows that the video was very surreal but had some reality qualities.

Through Matreyek's work, she has created meaning by using sound with the animation images. By just listening to the sound / music playing without looking at the video you could tell it would be the kind of sounds coming out of a factory by all the mechanical noises. When you look at the animation it shows you how Matreyek sees a factory, she uses surrealism to corroborate with her visualization of a factory. Thus creating a world that doesn't look real.

Appraising Animation - Focus Questions

Factory
Factory- by citrusink, on Vimeo

I have chosen to do my Appraising Animation on Miwa Matreyek's work Factory. The website above is where you can watch Factory for yourself.

Imagery:
Factory, is a repetitive and surreal video. Through the video it shows how Miwa Matreyek, interprets going to work. People are shown repeating simple tasks over and over again. In the opening scene it shows the factory in black, white and grey. Above the factory there is smoke pouring out and blips that are carrying ships. The hands inside repeatedly picking up nothing then putting it down. It shows people working the huge machinery, which is oversized and shows the surrealism in this video. There are many scenes that show some sort of repetition in the opening scenes.

This was shown when the people walk in they all walk in almost the same way and are wearing the same boring uniform. Then it shows repetition with the people when they are doing all their different jobs like the women who is controlling the hand, making it do the exact same thing over and over again. The main backgrounds used in throughout the film are: outside the factory, inside the factory and the control room where they control the machinery. The machinery in some of the background scenes looks like it shouldn’t be there for example the blender and the huge binoculars.

Overall Impression:

The overall impression of the Factory would be that the people shown in the film are going to work, but the video is very strange because of the surrealism threaded through it. The audience’s mood would be affected by the sound / music played and by the colours used. This affects the mood of the video because it would be boring going the same thing over and over again and sounds as if the people by the colour scheme don’t like coming to work since it is very repetitive. They look depressed by the colours by only showing blacks, whites and greys in the factory this would be very pleasant to look at every day when you go to work would it? It creates an unreal reality where the tools used are bigger then the people handling them and where there are no colours.

Visual language cues, sound cues and editing:

The visual language used in this video uses colour to make the film come across as boring to some people or interesting to others since it is mostly made of different shades of blacks and whites. The sounds played in each changes and is different from the sound before, this music is mostly made of the mechanical noises the machines make which gives the impression that this film is suppose to show that the factory workers do their jobs well. While the people in the video are working it shows the audience that the factory needs every worker to do their job to perfection for the factory to run. That is probably why their movements are so repetitive.

The editing of Factory would be quite involved because from the look of the scenes in this video it looks like most of the backgrounds are hand drawn. After the hand drawn backgrounds the objects and people in the foreground would have to be edited in. This is shown in the scenes where the workers are going to work as well as when they are actually working. Miwa Matreyek has used in her animation Factory scale, repetition, movement, line, unity, shape and tone to emphasis the video. All this visual language adds depth and creativity to the work and helps for the audience to understand what would be going on in the film. Miwa Matreyek has used movement, scale, shape, repetition and tone to show how the jobs themselves are important and to grab our attention. This is contrasted with the machinery in the background, which makes it look believable but somehow out of place.

Term 4 :)

Hello everyone!
Sorry I haven't been blogging since I have been at school, but a lot has been happening! So I should catch you all up on what happened on the first day. On the first day Mr Powell told us how we could create an iBook on the laptops that we could actually send the file to our iPads to open as an iBook! How cool is that!! Then next lesson we watched most of the films that everyone had made and mine totally sucked compared to everyone else! The classes films were amazing and I really enjoyed watching them.

Reflection term 2-3

I think these past two terms I have learnt many new techniques and skills about filming, animationish and creative media! These past couple of terms I have had multiple trouble with my usb and I actually completed all of my scenes numerous of times and the end result would be having put my usb into another computer, it deleted! I was very devistated when this happened to me for an number of times, since I had to start from scratch again :( Overall this term I think I did pretty well, I enjoyed amencly working with the different film equipment and loved exploring the many techniques that all of us had learnt on the way. I am very pleased about how my film/ music video turned out but not too happy about the music since it wasn't playing at the right times when the clips were playing. Another obstical for me was also my blog since some of the movie scenes wouldn't upload to my blog unfortunaly! Next term's assessment I hope to be more ontop of things especially my blog and my work not getting too stressed about it. And trying to keep myself calm and not buy any usb's that could become corrupt!! (that was a joke by the way). If I could do this assignment over again I think I would have tried to start the assignment sooner since I was stuck on ideas towards the start of the last term!

Mr Powell told us how to upload our film and animation to the computer. We learned how to do effects in iMovie and learned how we could put sound into our movie. It was pretty cool I think that I would use it in my music video. So far I have completed about 4 scenes and still have a more scenes to finish. I am still working on it but I couldn't take a computer home since I was at a swimming carnival on the weekend :)

Animation-ish

Today was our very first lesson back at school for creative media with Mr Powell! He showed us that lesson to use program called Animation-ish. I loved the fact that we could draw whatever we wanted and make it move in series or slides. The first thing we learned to do on Animation-ish was to draw a fish on 3 slides and have the trace on. It was cool to try to draw the same fish but everytime it looked different, then we looped the slides and it looked as if the fish was moving. On the other hand we also learned to maked something move on the screen, for example a bouncing ball! So here is my first version of the amazing bouncing ball :D Enjoy xoxo

Reflection term 1

I think this term I have had the chance to learn something new and different! I found it hard to keep up with my blog as you can tell I am pretty much putting it all in now! I am very pleased how I created my first avatar (angry), I think personally it was much better then the second avatar (happy). Even though it took the most time to complete the creation. The hardest thing for me this term was trying to keep putting things on my blog and trying to complete my avatar. Even though it was really fun creating my own race of people I also didn't really start on my race of people when we were told to. I didn't really know what I was going to do with creating them or how they would look! But near the end of the term I kinda thought of more good ideas but I don't know why I didn't think of them before? If I could do this term all over again I think I would try to get my blog happening faster and not waiting till the last minute to put everything down. And I would've wanted to start my avatar earlier so I could have had time to place my fangs in my angry avatar picture. I think next term I will try to do as Mr Powell says and do my blog every 2-3 times a week so it won't get out of hand next time.

Inspiring images for my avatars

Sorry I didn't put these up earlier!

Angry:

Happy:

My Watrins happy avatar

This is my happy Watrins avatar, I think that it doesn't look as good as the angry avatar. But I think I gave it a good shot at completing this avatar. What I didn't like about this avatar was that the mouth looked out of place and awkward. I didn't really realise it looked so bad until I was beginning to cut out the mouth to turn it black. But it was too late to try to change the mouth so I just left it as it was. I also think I made the nose too big for the face but I think that it kinda is an out of this world avatar so it would look a little odd.
